Univar, a leading distributor in Canada’s agriculture industry, came to ON Communication looking for an update to its existing price book. The document, which was a printed version released to their customers each year, had become difficult to manage as a result of frequent price updates. The company asked us for an electronic version that could be loaded on a memory stick – what we delivered was something far better and more intuitive for users.
As the ON team reviewed the “change-on-the-fly” requirements from Univar, it quickly became apparent that a web-based solution would be far more efficient for the company – and far more user-friendly for its customers – than a paper version. When a price needs to be updated, employees now log into a secure site that uses a simple content management system to make the change. The changes are immediately reflected online, which means, once customers login to their account, they always see the most up-to-date product and pricing information. In addition, customers now have the added benefit of being able to search for products based on product code, category, and supplier. With a click of a mouse, they also have immediate access to technical links, suppliers, and other product information.
Before speaking with ON, the idea of a web-based price book was not even on the table. But, by taking a fresh look at Univar’s needs, we were able to develop a solution that was exactly what they needed. The online price book was an industry-leading change that outpaced the company’s competition and was universally well-received by its customers.
